Simple Cherry Amaretto Crumble

Cherry Amaretto Crumble takes a popular North American dessert and gives it a German twist. Cherries & almonds are just scrumptious together.

Ingredients

  • 4 cups 600g of frozen Sweet Cherries
  • 1 tablespoon Esslöffel of Amaretto
  • 1 large Egg
  • 3/4 of a cup 150g of Sugar
  • 1 cup of 200g White Whole Wheat Flour (Weizenmehl Type 1050)
  • 1 pinch prise of Salt
  • 1/2 cup 60g of sliced Almonds
  • 6 tablespoons 90g of Butter, melted
  • 1/2 teaspoon of Pure Almond Extract 10-12 drops of Bittermandel Aroma

Instructions

  1. Pour cherries into a lightly greased 8 x 8 inch (20 x 20 cm) baking dish and sprinkle with amaretto. egg, sugar, salt and flour in a medium bowl and stir until mixture resembles a coarse meal. Add almonds and stir until evenly distributed. Sprinkle mixture over the cherries. Add almond extract (or aroma) to melted butter and drizzle over the topping.
  2. Bake at 375° (190°) for 45 minutes or until lightly browned and bubbly. Let stand 10 minutes before serving.

Recipe Notes

German flavour Aromas are stronger than Extracts. 1/4 teaspoon of Aroma equals 1 teaspoon of extract in flavour power.
Using fresh cherries is just as good, if not better, than frozen. Just decrease the baking time by 10 minutes.
