German Boiled Potatoes (Salzkartoffeln)

  • 1 pound of Yukon Gold potatoes
  • 1 teaspoon of salt


  1. Wash and peel potatoes. Make sure all pieces are around the same size, so half and/or quarter larger potatoes to achieve this.
  2. Put potatoes in a large pot, cover with cold water and bring to a boil.
  3. Boil with lid on for 15 - 20 minutes or until done.
  4. Drain off water and let them set in the pot without a lid to let the steam escape for about 5 - 10 minutes.
  5. Serve as side dish or use as a foundation for other recipes.

Recipe Notes

Keep an eye on the potatoes by poking with a knife or fork to make sure they don't become overcooked.
